In line with the thrust to promote responsible and free journalism and pursuant to the provision of RA 7079, SDO Batangas City conducted the 2018 Division Schools Press Conference held at Batangas City East Elem. School, Bulwagang ALA-EH and at the University of Batangas, September 11-14 .It has the theme Fostering 21st Century Skills and Character Based Education through Campus Journalism.

The conference aims to demonstrate understanding of the importance of journalism through different journalistic endeavors and approaches; sustain advocacy on Fostering Character Based Education and enhance journalistic competence through healthy and friendly competitions.

The activities include the following; Individual/Group Contests, Sxcriptwriting, TV and Radiobrosadcasting contests, Collaborative desktop publishing and awarding of Individual and group contest winners. A total of 230 cqampus journalists, 118 school paper advisers and 10 task force members, a total of 362 in all, shall represent the city division in the 2018 Regional Schools Press Conference to be held in Sta. Cruz Laguna, Division of Laguna Province.

The winners were chosen from the top five in the eight individual categories and top seven in the three group contest categories, English and Filipino, elementary and secondary levels. Out of the regional qualifiers, the top 3 winners in the different categories will compete for the National Schools Press Conference to be conducted in Ilocos Region. Venue and date to be announced later.

For the group contests, publications will be selected for each bracket as; Best Editorial Page, Best Features/Literary Page, Best Newspage, Best Sports Page, Best Layout Page Design and Best School Paper.

A search for outstanding School paper adviser and campus journalist was conducted too.

Meanwhile, cliniquing of delegates for RSPC 2018, shall be conducted on OCT. 7-12 2018 to enhance the journalistic competence of all journalists and school paper advisers who will participate in the said regional competition.
